Benue executive council passes vote of confidence on Alia

The Benue State Executive Council on Thursday passed a vote of confidence on Gov Hyacinth Alia.

This is contained in a press statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Tersoo Kula and made available to newsmen in Makurdi.

Kula said the exco during their session declared their unflagged support for the governor and passed a unanimous vote of confidence on him.

He said the motion was moved by the Deputy Governor, Mr Sam Ode, who said the resolution was necessary amid growing political and social challenges, especially the escalating security issues in the state.

Ode commended Alia for the handling of the situation, reiterating his efforts in reconnecting Benue with the central government.

He mentioned the enhanced cooperation from security agencies in focusing on the security perils bedeviling the state.

The deputy governor further bemoaned the tragic loss of two soldiers who were murdered by armed herders while on duty, protecting civilians in Turan, Kwande Local Government Area.

Seconding the motion, Rev. Fredrick Ikyaan, Commissioner for Education and Knowledge Management appreciated the governor’s steadfast leadership in spite of the many challenges.

Speaking on behalf of the Principal Officers at the Exco, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr Paul Biam said “To whom honour is due, honour should be given.”

In his response, Gov Hyacinth Alia who accepted the vote of confidence, expressed gratitude to the members of the Exco for the show of faith in him and his administration.

He said that the unanimous support would spur him to go all out for the betterment of the state.

The governor appealed to his cabinet members and the entire people of the State, to sustain the faith, belief and backing for his government in the overall interest of the State.
