Former minister of humanitarian affairs and poverty alleviation Betta Edu has expressed gratitude as she recalled surviving a plane accident two years ago.

In an Instagram post on Thursday, she shared pictures of a medical report from Reddington Hospital, Lagos, alongside a note of appreciation.

“Endless Thanksgiving to the greatest God!” she wrote.

“Today makes it exactly two years (20/2/2023) I survived a ghastly plane accident.

“Plane summersaulted mid-air on my way to Lagos for grand finale Presidential Rally of President Bola Tinubu. Next morning I was on truck (with bandage under my head tie, swollen forehead and one eye almost shutting down) & on stage campaigning!

“Only God spared our lives! It’s a long story but this post is just to express my utmost gratitude to Jesus, ever faithful! God’s not done!”

Edu survived the accident while traveling to Lagos for a campaign event.

The aircraft developed a mid-air malfunction and somersaulted, but there were no casualties.

In January 2024, she was suspended as minister over allegations of diverting N585 million in ministry funds to a personal account.

President Bola Tinubu directed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate.

By October 2024, presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga confirmed that she would not be returning to her position.

“Betta Edu is gone… Her position has been taken over by someone else,” he said.

Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda was appointed as her replacement.
