Mathew Knowles father of American singer Beyonce has been appointed alongside Michael Kiladejo as members of the global executive team of Nigerian on-demand music streaming platform MePlaylist.
In a statement on Tuesday, the company’s media contact Edward Israel-Ayide said the appointment is followed by their investment earlier in the year in the music streaming startup.
The statement said the two investors have expressed their cheerfulness about the growth of streaming in the wider African market at the Midem Digital held in June.
Knowles is widely recognised for being the manager of girl group Destiny’s Child. He also managed the solo careers of his daughters Beyoncé Knowles and Solange Knowles. He will be the president, global marketing and communications at MePlaylist to position the company as a major player on the international music streaming landscape for the Nigerian-born platform.
Knowles who is however going to be operating from the US said: “l look forward to my new role with MePlaylist and it gives me a deep sense of pride to partner with two incredible African men in a music streaming space that where people of colour are not represented enough.
“Our goal at MePlaylist is to bring awareness to the many incredible artists and a plethora of African music genres.
“We want to take African music out of the generalized ‘World Music’ category and give it the many powerful voices it deserves.”
Michael Kiladejo who is based in London will be the president, global licensing and content acquisition.
MePlaylist is a digital entertainment and streaming service that grants music lovers access to stream and download unlimited music.
