All roads led to a deceptively quiet but grand venue in Ladywood, Birmingham on January 16 when friends and family of Alhaja Medinat Olorunwa Olukoya came from far and wide to celebrate her 40th birthday.
Popularly known as ‘Big Mummy’, Alhaja Olukoya (nee Onakoya), is a UK registered practising nurse who is very popular on the Birmingham social scene.
She is reputed for planning, decorating, catering and hosting many of the most talked about parties in town in her capacity as proprietor of Pretty Star Ventures Event Organisers, also based in Birmingham.
It was no surprise there that she left no stone unturned for her big day. From the 450-seater hall to the classy decorations in pink and mint green, the atmosphere was set for a night to remember.
Speaking at the event, her husband, Mr Olumuyiwa Olukoya, described his wife as his everything; a loving and dependable wife and a brilliant mum to their son. Making a toast which brought tears to the celebrant’s eyes, Olukoya declared: “My lovely wife is God sent to me. As we celebrate her 40th birthday today it is humbling to see how far God has brought us in life. She has been there for me and our little boy Okikiola Paddy. I cherish her with every breath in my body”.
A proud and grateful Olukoya spared no expense in ensuring that everyone had a nice time at his wife’s big event.
There were several aso ebis, with close friends gracing the occasion in orange, while families and other invited guests and NIMAB Organisation wore pink and mint green outfits.
Pretty Star Ventures was also at its finest with a rich assortment of food and drink.
Friends from Nigeria, England, Ireland and other parts of the UK described the celebrant as vibrant, reliable and hardworking. Big Mummy was also described as a fun-loving lady who is always there for all her numerous nieces and nephews as well as her friends’ children, while never neglecting her own.
Also in attendance were her parents, Alhaji (Chief) Ramoni Onakoya CEO Ramonak Oil Ltd, and Alhaja Silifat Onakoya; her stepmother, Alhaja Selimot Onakoya; and her mother-in-law, Alhaja Adebisi Olukoya, who all travelled from Nigeria to the UK to grace the occasion.
The celebrant’s mother-in-law, Alhaja Adebisi Olukoya, said about her: “The celebrant is not only my daughter-in-law, but my daughter. She is respectful and a good role model for other daughters-in-law in the family. She is a wonderful addition to our family”
Fuji band, Semo Winter from Ireland, played brilliantly for hours, sending guests both young and old into dancing raptures. Guests soon forgot that the temperature outside the party venue was the typical English winter sub-zero degrees.
MC for the night was the popular Bola Abudu from London, who entertained the guests with rib-cracking jokes and comments.
Big Mummy looked beautiful. With several outfit changes and immaculate make-up, she was the gracious belle of the ball, smiling, dancing and greeting all her guests, while making sure everyone went home with an armful of souvenirs and treats.
She thanked Almighty Allah for granting her the opportunity to celebrate her 40th birthday with all her friends and family. She was overwhelmed with the outpouring of love and goodwill from everybody, especially all the guests who travelled from out of town to attend the event.
