Controversial cross-dresser, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, is set to regain freedom from the Kirikiri correctional centre on August 5.
According to a report by Punch, his planned release was disclosed by a prison source who spoke on the condition of anonymity.
“Bobrisky will be released on Monday, August 5,” the prison official said.
Bobrisky’s legal representative Ayo Olumofin on Tuesday also confirmed his scheduled release.
Olumofin stated, “Yes, it’s about that time for him to be released. There is nothing specific that would be done during his release.”
The legal practitioner said he might not be present for the crossdresser’s release, stating that he is not in Lagos. He affirmed that he is not Bobrisky’s original lawyer but only “did allocution for him.”
Bobrisky was sentenced to six months imprisonment by Justice Abimbola Awogboro for abusing the naira. He was jailed without an option of fine.
Though the cross-dresser filed an appeal to challenge his conviction, it is unlikely the appeal would be heard before the expiration of his six-month jail term next Monday.
