Police in Bayelsa have confirmed the death of a 78-year-old woman, Ayoko Owoko, in the custody of kidnappers in the creeks of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa.
Bayelsa police spokesperson, Asinim Butswat, said on Thursday that efforts were being made to rescue her until her body was discovered by the waterside.
The deceased was the mother of a former member of Bayelsa State House of Assembly.
Her body was found in Amasoma area of the state.
The septuagenarian was abducted on April 18 at her riverside country home in Amasoma.
The victim was reportedly sick at the time of her abduction.
Mr Butswat said her body was discovered on Wednesday at the bank of the River Nun which flows through the community.
He also said that investigators had begun work on the incident.
