The body of Oreoluwa Fatinoye, son of the couple killed by suspected assassins in Abeokuta on New Year’s Day, has been recovered from a river in Ogun State

The deceased was reportedly thrown into a river on Adigbe- Obada Road in Abeokuta after being kidnapped by the assailants who killed his parents.

His decomposing body was discovered floating on the river by fishermen on Tuesday morning.

His hands were tied with rope to the back.

Oreoluwa’s parents, Kehinde and Bukola Fatinoye, were killed by yet-to-be-identified persons in the early hours of Sunday, January 1 at their residence located within Ibara Government Reservation Area (GRA), Abeokuta.

They had just returned from a crossover service to usher in the new year when they were attacked.

The husband worked with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) while the wife was an employee of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB).

Their building was set on fire, while one of the couple’s children and their maid were kidnapped by the assailants.

The remains of the couple, who were burnt beyond recognition, were buried on Monday amidst tears by symphatisers, family members and friends.

Meanwhile, Ogun police spokesperson SP Abimbola Oyeyemi confirmed the recovery of Oreoluwa’s corpse.

Mr Oyeyemi said the police would continue with their investigation to unravel the mystery behind the death of the Fatinoyes.
