Boko Haram fighters attacked the convoy of Borno State Governor Prof. Babagana Zulum on Wednesday on Baga highway.
A faction of the Islamist group, Islamic State of West Africa Province, is believed to have a stronghold in the area.
A member of the Civilian Joint Task Force told PUNCH of the incident.
“Fortunately the convoy cleared them off with two vigilante and a policeman wounded. The convoy has returned to Monguno town,” the source said.
Boko Haram fighters had about a week ago killed five aid workers who were abducted on the same road in June.
The Borno government could not be reached for comments.
