The 333 Artillery Barracks of the Nigerian Army in Maiduguri, Borno State capital came under attack from Boko Haram fighters on Monday night.
The jihadists and soldiers were said to have exchanged gunshots for about an hour from around 11:20 pm.
It was learnt that the insurgents, who came through Gambori village behind the army barracks, surrounded the facility and launched the attack.
Reports also say shots were fired at the insurgents by warplanes from the nearby NAF base.
The number of casualties arising from the attack was not immediately clear.
