An attack by Boko Haram gunmen on motorcycle has left two persons dead at an internally displaced persons’ camp (IDP) in Maiduguri, Borno State capital.
Security sources said the Dalori IDP camp, located near University of Maiduguri, came under attack late Thursday after the suspected insurgents broke in through the back perimeter fence at about 8 pm.
A security official attached to the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Bello Danbatta, confirmed that a child and an old man were the victims of the attack.
The attack came a few hours to July 26, the date which marks the beginning of Boko Haram insurgency ten years ago.
A top commander of the civilian joint task force, Abba Aji, said the gunmen first attacked the soldiers’ station near the camp before they moved in, shooting sporadically.
The insurgents were said to have broken into shops and stolen food items.
