Award-winning filmmaker Bolanle Austen-Peters is bringing her acclaimed stage production Dear Kaffy – Diary of a Single Woman back to Lagos for a special Easter run, following successful outings in South Africa and previous performances in Nigeria.
Produced by Bolanle Austen-Peters Productions, the play will be staged at Terra Kulture, Victoria Island, from April 18 to 21 and again from April 26 to 27, 2025.
Each day will feature two shows at 3pm and 7pm.
Written and directed by the 56-year-old, Dear Kaffy follows the journey of Kikelomo Olota, a 35-year-old single woman in Lagos who is caught between love, societal expectations and personal growth.
Kikelomo’s love life takes center stage as she encounters Femi, a man whose charm conceals hidden intentions, and Emeka, who is later revealed to be married.
She faces pressure from her father and heartbreaks that push her to question her choices—until Debo enters the picture, offering a fresh start. But just as her life begins to stabilise, her ex-boyfriend Tamuno returns, forcing her to confront her past.
Set against the vibrant and chaotic backdrop of Lagos, the play weaves humour, music and social commentary to highlight the emotional complexities of African womanhood.
The ensemble cast features Uzo Osimkpa as Kikelomo, Yewande Osamein as Tolani, Abiola Lepe as Bidemi, Sharon Onyegbula as Shalewa, Ralph Okoro as Tamuno, Hector Amiwero and Obiora Maduegbuna alternating as Debo, Floyd Igbo as Femi, Bimbo Manuel as Kike’s father and Bukola Ogunnote as her mother.
Stage management is handled by Ikenna Jude Okpala, with music direction by Kehinde Oretimehin and Deji Aremu.
Speaking about the Lagos return, Austen-Peters said: “The quality of storytelling and performance in Dear Kaffy is excellent, it sells itself. This play gives a voice to the everyday African woman while celebrating her strength and vulnerability. We are honoured to bring it back home for Easter.”
