Nollywood actress, Lola Alao, has cleared the air about her recent “conversion” to Islam, stating that she was actually born into a Muslim home.
The 45-year-old revert from Kogi State made the clarification in a message she posted on Instagram on Friday.
She said her re-conversion was facilitated by one Alhaji Yusuf Adepoju.
It was the first time she will be addressing the issue after news broke that she had adopted the name Rohdiat.
Speculation about her religious status began earlier in the week when Adepoju wrote on Facebook “Glory be to Allah. Join me in congratulating Lola Alao (a popular Nollywood actress). She just took the Kalimatu Shaa’dah from me, and chose the name Rhodiat.
“May Allah give her proper understanding of Islam, and make her, well grounded in her new faith, Al-Islam. Aamiyn.”
The twice married actress made reference to her newfound religious zeal on Tuesday while thanking “family, friends and fans that supported me during my father’s burial”.
Lola got married to Wale Ajibola in the United States in 2013, five years after her first marriage to Dare Ogunlana ended.
She was once involved in a three-way sex scandal with Kogi politician, Dino Melaye, and fellow actress, Bisi Ibidapo-Obe, over the paternity of the latter’s child and allegation of pimping for National Assembly members.
She denied the allegations, saying Melaye, who promised to donate N10million to her movie project, was “a brother.”
