Comedian Bovi has engaged in a fight with critics who compared his actions during the 2020 #EndSARS protest with Tobi Amusan’s world record.
At the 2021 Headies Awards, Bovi wore a green and white outfit with blood-like stains on it as a tribute to victims of the October 2020 #EndSARS protest, his action was met with mixed reactions.
On Monday, August 8, a Twitter user identified as Big Sam posted the old picture of Bovi wearing the outfit alongside a photo of the victorious Tobi Amusan who won gold at the World Athletics Championships and 2022 Commonwealth Games, holding the Nigerian flag in excitement.
Captioning the post, he wrote: “@officialBovi these are two Nigerians, but Nigeria will not forget your evil works @officialBovi . You haven’t done anything to make Nigeria proud, rather Nigeria has made you who you are today. We will never forget!”
“The people that paid and manipulated you people into this endless campaign have moved on. But being the zombies that you all are, you keep trying to get up. Just one visual statement and you people can’t sleep. You’re all keeping the memories of 10/20 alive. Good job,” Bovi replied.
Another tweep identified as Chigozirim knocked the comedian for blocking him over an earlier altercation.
“Dear Bovi blocking me on this App is not a mature way to react to issues like this. You are among the celebrities that blackmailed this country in Oct 202. A national apology should be your only option right now,” the tweep wrote.
“If I block you, it’s to save you from embarrassing your future self. Your opinions don’t form a universal truth. The future isn’t far. Let the consequences of our actions today manifest glowingly,” Bovi fired back.
