Wife of the President, Aisha Buhari, has sued Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State for claiming that she was indicted in the Halliburton corruption scandal, Premium Times has reported.
The online medium says it is in possession of court summons dated July 20, 2016.
Fayose had in June said Mrs. Buhari was the “Aisha Buhari” named in a US court document, alleged to have been involved in a bribery case involving a convicted former American lawmaker, Williams Jefferson.
Despite several rebuttals by the Presidency and former Chairmen of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Nuhu Ribadu and Ibrahim Lamorde, Fayose insisted President Muhammadu Buhari’s wife was the one indicted and challenged her to go to court.
A statement by Fayose’s lawyer, Mike Ozekhome, dated July 8, 2016, insisted that his statement was “correct and justified in law, having regards to a court judgment convicting one Mr William Jefferson for bribery in the Halliburton case.”
The governor also dared Mrs Buhari to travel to the US if her hands were clean.
Fayose enjoys constitutional immunity against criminal prosecution as a sitting governor.
