President of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Akinwumi Adesina has been re-elected for a second tenure.
Presidential aide Lauretta Onochie announced this on Thursday via Twitter, thanking President Muhammadu Buhari for his support.
“Our very own Akinwumi Akin Adesina has been reaffirmed as the President of the African Development Bank,” she wrote.
“Thank you to our supportive President @MBuhari who mobilised support for our own Adesina and why not! Adesina has been proven to be above board. Congratulations.”
Adesina had faced probe for allegations of misconduct and abuse of office but was vindicated.
The AfDB is currently holding its 55th annual meeting in Côte d’Ivoire virtually due to COVID-19 restrictions.
The head of the African bank had appealed on Wednesday for a second term in office, declaring he was “doing it with an acute sense of duty and commitment.”
