Former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Godswill Akpabio, has resigned from his position as the Minority Leader of the 8th Senate.
In the words of his media aide, Jackson Udom, the resignation letter was dated August 4, 2018.
Udom stated that the letter was addressed to the Deputy Minority Leader, Senator Emmanuel Bwacha.
The statement read: “May I extend to you and my dear colleagues in the Peoples Democratic Party, Senate caucus of the 8th Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria the compliments and best wishes of my constituents and I.
“This Letter is to formally inform you of my resignation as the Senate Minority Leader with effect from August 4, 2018.
“Let me thank the Senate Minority Leadership, our distinguished colleagues and great party, the PDP for the opportunity to lead the Caucus in the last three years.”
Ahead of his rumored defection, Akpabio, who represents Akwa Ibom North West, is set to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday.
The former Governor who was elected on the platform of the PDD is set to defect to the ruling APC Wednesday barring any unforeseen occurrence.
