Veteran actor Amaechi Muonagor has died.
The actor’s passing was confirmed by fellow actor Kingsley Orji on Sunday.
Amaechi, famous for his comical roles on screen, passed away after a protracted battle with a kidney disease.
Days before the actor’s death, Kingsley appealed to the public on his behalf, saying that the movie star needed money for a kidney transplant in India.
In the video, Kingsley who visited the actor at his home in Anamabra, stated that the actor’s health is deteriorating and he needs an emergency transplant.
Speaking in Igbo, Kingsley Orji who got down on his knees, pleaded with the public to support the actor financially.
Amaechi, who could barely talk, laid on a bed with the right part of his chest covered with plaster. Ameachi Munogaor greeted his fans before proceeding to ask for support.
Nollywood celebrities like Rita Edochie and Anita Joseph reposted the video on their Instagram accounts, asking their followers to come to their colleague’s rescue.
Amaechi’s health condition was made known to the public on November 3 2023 when a video of him begging for financial support went viral.
The 61-year-old disclosed that he has been battling with stroke for the past seven months and needed financial aid.
“I am sick, this thing that is called stroke caught up with me, from there they rushed me to hospital. The first hospital they rushed me to was in Nnewi, where I spent some two months and I was referred to teaching hospital Nnewi and here I am.
“In that set, I was with Emeka Ani, Patience Ozokwo, Rita Edochie and Ebele Okaro, at the end of that moment, I was to enter my car when I was struck with this problem and since then it’s getting worse. Right now I cannot move, I can’t walk on my own. All my half of left is paralyzed, so it’s a problem to me,” he said in the video.
A few weeks later, the actor’s cousin and colleague Tony One Week Muonagor added that the actor was also suffering from diabetes, a kidney disease and has been undergoing dialysis.
Ameachi hailed from Idemili North LGA of Anambra State.
Amaechi Muonagor is survived by his wife, Hope Chikodi Muonagor, and their children.
