President Muhammadu Buhari has renamed the National Stadium Abuja to Moshood Abiola stadium in honour of the late winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election.
Mr Buhari renamed the stadium on Wednesday while delivering his inaugural June 12 Democracy Day address at the Eagles Square, Abuja.
Buhari had on June 6 posthumously awarded the man which June 12 revolves around, Moshood Abiola, with Grand Commander of the Federal Republic (GCFR), an honour reserved only for presidents.
Abiola won the 1993 presidential election which was annulled by former military dictator, Ibrahim Babangida.
The President said on Wednesday that Nigeria had all it takes to become a world power.
He said he was optimistic that Nigeria could do it since China, India and Indonesia have achieved the feat.
