A Kwara State High Court has found five suspects involved in the Offa bank robbery incident of 2018 guilty of illegal possession of firearms, armed robbery and culpable homicide.
Justice Haleemah Salman sentenced the convicts — Ayoade Akinnibosun, Azeez Salahudeen, Niyi Ogundiran, Ibikunle Ogunleye and Adeola Abraham — on Thursday to death by hanging.
On the possession of firearms, the judge pronounced judgement of three years in prison.
Briefing journalists, the prosecution counsel said various reasons ranging from the COVID-19 period and national assignment given to the judge informed the long process.
The representative of the defence counsel, however, said the judgement will be appealed.
The robbery occurred in Offa on April 5, 2018. Several persons lost their lives.
One of the suspects Michael Adikwu, a police officer, died in custody.
