Deputy Leader of the House of Representatives, Umar Jibrin, has died after a protracted illness.
The death, which occurred in the early hours of Friday, was announced by Speaker Yakubu Dogara.
“He will be buried later today in Lokoja after the Jummat prayer,” Dogara wrote in a statement personally signed by him.
Jibrin, who represented the Lokoja/Koto Federal Constituency in Kogi State, was undergoing treatment in an Abuja hospital when he died.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to his immediate family, his wives, children, relations, his constituents and people of Kogi State,” Dogara added.
Dogara described the one-time speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly as an upright man, a leader par excellence, a patriotic, committed and hardworking lawmaker and worthy representative.
“He will greatly be missed by all. May his gentle rest in peace,” Dogara concluded.
Jibrin was a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
