Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr Kayode Fayemi, has resigned his appointment to contest the Ekiti State governorship election.
The 53-year-old announced his resignation at a press briefing on Wednesday
He said President Muhammadu Buhari accepted his resignation which he turned in a few weeks ago. The resignation is effective May 30.
Fayemi emerged the APC governorship candidate at a rescheduled part primary held in Ado-Ekiti on May 12.
The election is scheduled for July 14.
Fayemi had previously governed the state from October 2010 to October 2014.
He was denied re-election by incumbent Governor Ayodele Fayose.
Fayemi is the major challenger to the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kolapo Olusola-Eleka, the preferred successor of Governor Fayose.
