An Igbosere Magistrate Court in Lagos has permitted the police to remand the former chief accountant of Brila FM Ekerete Sunday for 21 days to enable the conclusion of investigation over alleged N100 million fraud.
Magistrate B. A. Sonuga granted the order after the prosecutor Friday Mameh argued that Mr Sunday established a similar radio station while he was employed by Brila FM without the consent of its founder Larry Izamoje and diverted over N100 million from Brila FM to various accounts.
Mameh argued that for the police to conclude the investigation of the matter, they brought the defendant to court and sought a remand order to detain the defendant at the police station to pave the way for the arrest of other suspects outside Lagos.
He said that after the investigation is concluded the defendant will be charged at a high court.
Mameh said the arraignment of the suspect by the office of the commissioner of police through the Force Intelligence Department in Obalende was inevitable to avoid a breach of the suspect’s constitutional right to liberty.
In a 13-point affidavit deposed to by Inspector Victor Effiong in support of the request for remand order of the court, the police said Izamoje reported the case of stealing against the defendant.
Effiong averred that it took several efforts by the police to arrest the defendant.
