Blessing Oromoni, sister of the late Dowen College student Sylvester Oromoni Jnr, has expressed sorrow over the death of their mother Rosemary Oromoni.
Mrs Oromoni died on November 25, 2024, following complications from an intermittent blood pressure-related illness.
Blessing, sharing her grief on Instagram with the handle b_anuta247, posted a heartfelt prayer on Tuesday for those grieving: “Dear God, we pray for those who are grieving today. Please, wrap your loving arms around them and bring them comfort in their sorrow. Remind them that You are near to the brokenhearted and your presence brings peace even in the deepest pain.”
The death of Oromoni’s mum has triggered widespread sympathy on social media, with many attributing her passing to unresolved grief over her son’s tragic and controversial death in 2021.
Oromoni Jnr., a Junior Secondary School 2 student of Dowen College in Lagos, died under contentious circumstances in December 2021. While his family alleged he was assaulted by schoolmates in an attempt to initiate him into cultism, the school claimed he succumbed to injuries sustained during a football match.
The case led to a coroner’s inquest which cleared Dowen College, its staff and the five accused students of any role in his death. Instead, the coroner indicted his parents and their family doctor for negligence, stating they failed to provide adequate care.
