British High Commissioner to Nigeria Catriona Laing on Wednesday joined the #BeLikeNgoziChallenge which began trending on social media shortly after Nigeria’s ex-finance minister Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala was confirmed the next director-general of the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
In a video posted to Twitter, Laing is seen dressed like Mrs Okonjo-Iweala in the trademark Nigerian fabrics.
Laing said the feat achieved by Okonjo-Iweala is an encouragement for girls all over the world to achieve their dreams.
She said: “Happy to join #BeLikeNgoziChallenge initiated by @temite with my #AnkaraArmy ‘gele’. For girls in Nigeria & all over the world @NOIweala shows there are no limits and you can still be yourself. Congratulations to the first female DG of @wto.”
Okonjo-Iweala is the first woman and the first African to lead the WTO.
The appointment has generated excitement on the home front.
