Gianluigi Buffon has announced he will leave Juventus at the end of the season after 17 years at the club.
The 40-year-old will play his last game for the Bianconeri against Hellas Verona at the weekend in what is sure to be an emotional send-off.
With over 600 appearances to his name, nine Serie A titles, four Coppa Italia trophies and various other pieces of silverware and individual accolades, Buffon goes down as one of the club’s all-time greats.
Buffon’s professional career began with Parma in 1995, before joining Juventus in 2001 for €52 million – world record fee for a goalkeeper.
However, the World Cup winner isn’t quitting the game yet as he intends to continue playing.
“Next week, after two or three days of reflection and serenity, I will take my decision,” he said.
“15 days ago, I was already an ex-player. Now I’m not sure any more. Proposals have arrived for some new challenges on and off the pitch. The most important off the pitch is from Juventus.”
