President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday named a former member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Board of Trustees, Senator Francis Okpozo, chairman of the Nigerian Press Council (NPC).
Problem is Senator Okpozo died in Benin, Edo State in December 2016 at the age of 81.
President Buhari even sent a condolence message signed by his media aide, Femi Adesina.
According to Mr. Adesina’s message, Buhari “hopes that all who mourn Senator Okpozo will carry forward his legacy of unwavering dedication to the unity of Nigeria, even as the nation would fondly remember his contributions to peace, development and justice in the Niger Delta.”
It appears the President wants Delta-born elder statesman to continue the contributions in death as he named him among the newly appointed 209 board chairmen and 1,258 members of government-owned agencies and parastatals.
One of the first persons to point out the faux pas was Sunday Areh, the spokesman of former Delta State Governor, Emmanuel Uduaghan.
“Over one year after his death, President Buhari appoints Senator Francis Okpozo as Chairman, Nigeria Press Council,” Areh wrote in a Facebook post on Friday night.
