President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed a new group managing director for the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
The new GMD, Mele Kyari, replaces Maikanti Baru who was appointed in July 2016.
Mr Kyari, who is the current group general manager, crude marketing division, will assume office as NNPC GMD on July 7.
Kyari is Nigeria’s representative to the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).
A trained geologist, Kyari leads Nigeria’s team to the OPEC economic commission board which takes place before the bi-annual meetings of the OPEC ministerial conference.
A statement by NNPC spokesperson, Ndu Ughamadu, Mr Buhari also appointed seven new chief operating officers (COOs).
The new COOs are:
1. Roland Onoriode Ewubare (South-South) – Chief Operating Officer, Upstream
2. Mustapha Yinusa Yakubu (North Central) – Chief Operating Officer Refining and Petrochemicals
3. Yusuf Usman (North East) – Chief Operating Officer, Gas and Power
4. Lawrencia Nwadiabuwa Ndupu (South East), Chief Operating Officer Ventures
5. Umar Isa Ajiya (North West) – Chief Financial Officer
6. Adeyemi Adetunji (South West) – Chief Operating Officer, Downstream and
7. Farouk Garba Said (North West) – Chief Operating Officer, Corporate Services.
Mr Ughamadu said the outgoing GMD had congratulated the new appointees.
