Buhari leaves for Saudi Arabia again

President Muhammadu Buhari will on Thursday (today) leave the country for Saudi Arabia to attend the summit of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Makkah.

The trip will be his first foreign visit after his inauguration Wednesday for a second term in office.

Saudi king, Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, will host Heads of State and Governments of member states at the 14th session of the OIC Summit Conference scheduled to hold on Friday.

OIC secretariat said the summit to be convened under the theme, “Makkah al-Mukarramah Summit: Hand in Hand toward the Future,” seeks to develop a unified stance on events in the Islamic world.

Mr Buhari is expected to address the forum.

He had previously visited Saudi Arabia to observe Umrah (lesser Hajj) on the invitation of the king.

The President will also hold bilateral meetings with world leaders to promote increased cooperation and collaboration on issues of mutual concern. 

He will be accompanied by Governors Mohammed Abubakar of Jigawa State, Gboyega Oyetola of Osun State and Abubakar Bello of Niger State.

Others are Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mustapha Suleiman; Director-General, National Intelligence Agency, Ahmed Rufa’i Abubakar; Director-General, National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Isa Ali Pantami; and Chairman, National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Abdullahi Mukthar.

Buhari is expected back in the country on June 2.
