President Muhammadu Buhari has convened a meeting with some former Nigerian leaders including Olusegun Obasanjo and Gen. Yakubu Gowon (rtd.)
It was gathered that the meeting is part of the ongoing critical consultations with major stakeholders aimed at finding lasting solutions to the nation’s security and socio-economic challenges.
The meeting on Friday comes hours after the president addressed the nation in a broadcast, urging the youths to end the #EndSARS protest against police brutality.
The meeting is being presided by Buhari from the council chamber of the Presidential Villa, Abuja while some former Nigerian leaders are participating virtually.
Other participants include Gen Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd.) former President Goodluck Jonathan and Ernest Shonekan.
Also at the meeting are Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, National Security Adviser Babagana Monguno, Chief of Defence Staff General Gabriel Olanisakin, Inspector-General of Police Mohammed Adamu, Director-General of Department of State Services Yusuf Bichi and Director-General of National Intelligence Agency Ahmed Rufai, among others.
Buhari had on Thursday met with security chiefs.
