Former President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed grief over the death of Pan Niger Delta Forum leader, Edwin Clark, describing him as an iconic statesman.
In a condolence message on Tuesday, Buhari said Clark’s death was a painful loss to the nation.
“Late Chief Edwin Clark was a leader dedicated to reforms whose commitment to the development of his community and the nation would always be remembered,” he said.
He added that Clark’s contributions to Nigeria’s unity and progress would be respected by generations to come.
Buhari also urged the late Ijaw leader’s family and the Delta region to uphold his legacy.
Clark’s death at 97 was confirmed in a statement by a family representative, Prof. C. C. Clark.
“The Clark-Fuludu Bekederemo family of Kiagbodo Town, Delta State, wishes to announce the passing of Chief (Dr.) Sen. Edwin Kiagbodo Clark OFR, CON on Monday, 17th February 2025,” the statement read.
The family said further details would be announced later.
