Former chairman of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Professor Chidi Odinkalu, has said that President Muhammadu Buhari does not care about governance.
Odinkalu said this during an interview with The Sun published on Monday.
The law professor said Mr. Buhari only cares about power which explains why he does not attend to issues swiftly.
“My view is that the president doesn’t care much about governance. His trophy was the pursuit of power not the use to which it is put. He has already won and feels vindicated. So he had no need to seek to perform or care about performing,” he said.
Odinkalu said the delay in appointing ministers was hurting the management of the country, adding that he was not expecting a surprise from the ministerial list expected from the president.
The professor, who is now the senior team manager for the Africa Programme of Open Society Justice Initiative, blamed the absence of a foreign affairs minister on the poor handling of the murder of Deputy Director General of the Chartered Institute of Insurance of Nigeria (CIIN), Uju Ndubuisi, in South Africa.
He also condemned the anti-corruption fight of the president, saying it is a “selection of tainted political opponents for the purpose of scoring political points.”
