The Senate has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to stop going abroad for medical treatment in order to ensure the State House clinic becomes functional this year.
The Senate Committee on Federal Character and Intergovernmental Affairs told State House Permanent Secretary Tijani Umar on Thursday.
Umar appeared before the committee to defend a 2021 budget estimate of N19.7 billion out of which N1.3 billion was proposed for the State House Clinic.
Chairman of the Senate committee Senator Danjuma La’ah said the committee would approve the budget for the State House Clinic but insisted that the president and other top officials of his government should no longer be flown abroad for medical treatment.
Umar told journalists afterwards that he would ensure all is put in place to meet the president’s medical needs and those of top officials once the budget is approved.
