Tolu Ogunlesi, social media aide of President Muhammadu Buhari, has accused a news platform known as BluePrint of reporting false news.
The Nigerian Army had in a release on Tuesday announced that Mr. Buhari had approved the promotion of the Nigerian Army Chief of Training and Operations, Major General Lamidi Adeosun, to the rank of a Lieutenant General.
Adeosun’s accelerated promotion has now pushed him to the same rank as the Chief of the Army Staff, Tukur Buratai.
The news platform reported that the president had sacked Buratai and replaced him with Adeosun.
In reaction, Mr Ogunlesi said that even if that was the case the report was false considering the press release by the army.
“We’re back here again. Some Naija Media and this obsession with ‘sack’. Gen Adeosun promoted to Lt Gen, same rank as COAS. The usual suspects translate it into ‘Buratai replaced.’ Without evidence.
“PS. Even if that’s what ultimately happens, as of yest it was fake news. Gorrit?” Ogunlesi said.
