President Muhammadu Buhari’s daughter, Zahra Buhari-Indimi, ignored official pretence on Friday and referred to her mother, Aisha Buhari, as Nigeria’s first lady.
Mrs Buhari, according to those close to her, secretly desires to be addressed as first lady but her husband’s criticism of the title during his election campaign means she has to settle for the less glamorous tag of “wife of the president”.
Recognising that, the 22-year old recently married Zahra wrote “Happy birthday to Nigeria’s First Lady” on Instagram on Friday to celebrate her mother’s 46th birthday.
She went on to describe her as “temple of greatness, reservoir of inspiration and a light to everyone that comes next to you”.
“May Allah increase you in every way my darling Mother,” she prayed.
Buhari’s seventh child, Zahra, married Ahmed Indimi, son of Nigerian billionaire and oil tycoon, Mohammed Indimi, in December 2016.
