Buhari’s govt has broken contract to safeguard lives – Agbaje

Jimi Agbaje

Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, Jimi Agbaje, has warned the governing party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), not to instigate violence ahead of March 9 governorship/state assembly polls.

In a video released on Twitter on Friday, Mr Agbaje said he was addressing the conduct of the presidential and National Assembly elections on Saturday after Nigerians ‘reached out’ to express their ‘frustration’.

He said: “Undoubtedly what played out last weekend was a clear violation of the social contract between government and its citizens. Every Nigerians has a fundamental right to life, civil liberties, right to vote, amongst other things.

“So when you have a situation where thousands of people are put in harm’s way just because they chose to exercise these rights while the government turns a blind eye, it has broken that contract.

“I visited some of the areas that were affected by voter suppression and violence and it is understandable why some of you are disappointed or angry or even afraid. I get it! But what I also know is that when good people do nothing, evil prevails.”

He urged the electorate not to sit out the forthcoming governorship/state assembly elections because of the violence that marred the presidential/National Assembly elections.

Agbaje further warned: “To the ruling party, we come in peace but let me be clear if your expression is fear and violence; you will be shocked that we will resist and prevail.”
