Actress Bukky Wright has shared her experience with depression while living in the UK and how she relied on medication to cope.
The 57-year-old made the revelation during a chat with media personality and comedian Teju Babyface on his podcast, which was shared on Instagram on Wednesday.
Bukky, who recently made a Nollywood comeback after nearly two decades, admitted that she was on antidepressants before her children helped her overcome dependence on the medication.
“There was a time when I was depressed. Yes, I was taking antidepressants. But my children had to wean me off it. They have always been my number one critique,” she said.
The actress added that her children encouraged her to focus on herself.
“They told me, ‘Iya, you have been living your life for us; now it is time to live for you. Enjoy yourself and have fun.’”
Following her return to Nigeria, Bukky has expressed plans to remain in the country and focus on her acting career.
She starred in Something About the Briggs, which premiered on January 31 and will also feature in Iyalode, set for release in June.
Since making her debut in 1996, Bukky has starred in classics like Saworoide (1999), Iyore (2014) and When Love Happens (2014).
