Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, has faulted Atiku Abubakar’s statement on Tuesday urging military officers to disregard President Muhammadu Buhari’s directive to deal ruthlessly with ballot box snatchers during the general elections.
Atiku is the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In a meeting with the principal staff officers, general officers’ commanders and brigade commanders on Wednesday, Buratai said Atiku’s statement was unfortunate especially because the military is mandated to obey constituted authority.
Tukur asked the former Vice President to withdraw the statement and also apologise for attempting to incite the army against the president.
The army chief disclosed that personnel attached to retired Army Generals, especially those who have become politicians, will be withdrawn for the polls.
He also said no political actors will be allowed army escort.
He then gave military officers until February 22 to resign if they have partisan feelings.
