Afro-fusion star Burna Boy on Sunday delivered a breath-taking performance of ‘Level Up,’ ‘Onyeka’ and ‘Ye’ from three different scenes, at the 2021 Grammy Awards Premiere Ceremony.
Wearing a white, feathered suit and layers of jewellery, Burna Boy paid homage to his roots with a performance heavy on swag and creativity.
Video of the medley started with the 29-year-old and a choir singing at the National Theatre in Lagos before segueing to an Afrobeat-themed set with drummers, saxophonist and female dancers, before ending with an orchestra of singers, instrumentalists and the superstar himself in a room filled with fog and mirrored screens.
The National Theatre which is due for renovation after years of neglect and rot was a beautiful backdrop in the 4:03 minutes video.
Burna Boy won his first career Grammy ahead of his epic set for Best Global Music Album for his 2020 LP Twice As Tall.
‘Level Up’ and ‘Onyeka’ are from his Grammy-winning project.
‘Ye’ was released in 2018 as the sixth single from his third studio album Outside.
