Afro-fusion singer, Burna Boy, has thanked Beninese singer-songwriter, Angelique Kidjo, for dedicating her fourth Grammy award to him.
Kidjo was announced winner of Best World Music Album category for her Celia at the 62nd Grammy Awards held on Sunday in Los Angeles, US.
The 59-year-old beat Burna Boy and several others to the award.
During her acceptance speech, Kidjo said: “This is for Burna Boy,” lifting up her award to cheers, and declaring him as part of the new generation of African musicians that are changing global perception of Africa and its music.
Burna, who has been vocal about his affection for Kidjo and her music, said in a post on Instagram on Monday night that he loved her and appreciates all who rooted for him to win the award.
“I love you forever @angeliquekidjo and every single person that rooted for me, I don’t take any of it lightly! The world get ready cause we’re all coming! #FOOTONNECK2020 🦍 ,” he said.
Kidjo and Burna Boy collaborated on the track ‘Different’ a standout from his African Giant album, which also features Damian Marley.
Burna Boy enjoyed a stellar 2019 winning awards and headlining concerts. Among others, the 28-year-old won Best International Act at the BET Awards.
