Multiple award-winning singers Burna Boy, Wizkid, Davido, Tiwa Savage and Yemi Alade were absent at the 15th edition of the Headies Awards.
The ceremony was held on Sunday, September 4 in Atlanta, United States of America.
Although Burna Boy, Wizkide and Davido won multiple awards at the ceremony, they were not present to receive them.
Wizkid led with four wins, making him the most awarded artiste of the night. The Grammy winner won the awards for Best Afrobeats Album for Made in Lagos, Album of the Year for Made in Lagos (Delux Edition), Best Collaboration for Essence featuring Tems and Best RNB single.
Burna Boy followed with Best Male Artiste and Artiste of the Year awards while Davido won the Best Digital Artiste of the Year and also won a Humanitarian award.
Tiwa Savage who was nominated for Best Female Artiste and Best RNB Album lost the Award to Tems who won in both categories.
Tiwa also lost the Recording Artiste of the year to Patoranking.
Others who were absent at the ceremony include Femi Kuti, Naira Marley, Timaya, Wande Coal, Simi and 2face. Some of the celebrities that attended the event include, Olamide, Omawumi, Ruger, Ayra Starr, Kcee, Flavour and BNXN.
BNXN who bagged the Next Rated award, dedicated it to his mum who died of cancer, fellow nominees Ruger and Ayra Starr and Grammy winner Burna Boy.
He said: “I want to thank God he is the reason I’m here, he is the reason I’ve been able to come this far. I dedicate this to my mum, she died of breast cancer this is for you mummy, this is for my family, this is for my management.”
Speaking after the ceremony, the singer formerly known as Buju thanked his fans for their support, adding that he is also dedicating the award to Burna Boy who emerged as Best African Artiste and Best Male Artiste.
“I don’t what to say menn, I could say all these on stage but thank you guys so much for supporting me, Thank you so so much for supporting me, I love you guys so much. There is no me without you I promise. I’m also going to dedicate this to Burna Boy menn I just forgot on stage. Thank you guys so much,” he said.
