Businessman docked for allegedly receiving stolen goods

A Wuse Zone 2 Senior Magistrates’ Court in Abuja on Wednesday arraigned Ifeanyi Chukwu of Peace village, Lugbe, Abuja, over stolen property.

Chukwu, 35, and businessman is facing one-count-charge of receiving stolen property.

The prosecutor, Adeniyi Oyeyemi, said the matter was reported by Kingsley Eze, CEO of Royal Point Company in Wuse Zone 3, Abuja, at Wuse Police Station on November 21.

The prosecutor said that the defendant allegedly received goods belonging to Royal Point Company that was stolen by the company driver.

Oyeyemi listed the stolen goods to include 12 pieces of full height cabinet, 12 pieces of drawer cabinet, 80 pieces of foreign forms, 24 pieces of executive chairs and two pieces of door bookshelves.

He said that the defendant knew that the goods were stolen and used a Honda car to evacuate them to an unknown place.

He added that the defendant had confessed that he received the goods and through his friend, he transferred N400,000 to the complainant’s account.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 316 of the Penal Code.

However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge and the Senior Magistrate, Jim Teribo, granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 with one surety in like sum.

Teribo ordered that the surety must be a civil servant residing within the court’s jurisdiction and adjourned the matter until December 15 for hearing.
