Nigeria Professional Football League champions, Enyimba FC, suffered yet another defeat in the CAF Champions League (CAFCL) which leaves them on the brink of elimination.
The two-time winners crashed 2-1 away to South African side, Mamelodi Sundowns on Wednesday at the Lucas Moripe Stadium, Tshwane.
This was preceded by a disappointing 1-0 home loss to Zamalek of Egypt a fortnight ago.
Enyimba without a victory in the competition, are bottom of Group B on zero points – while Sundowns and Zamalek have three apiece having played a game less.
With Algerian club, ES Setif, already disqualified for crowd violence, the quest to progress becomes even more difficult for Paul Aigbogun’s side.
Goals from Leonardo Castro and Wayne Arendse either side of Moses Ojo’s strike gave the host a deserved victory.
Castro drew first blood in the 42nd minute when Keagan Dolly’s low cross was not cleared with the Colombian forward bundling the ball home.
Enyimba struck back minutes before the hour mark through a thunderous strike from Ojo.
Their joy was however short-lived as the host scored the winner 12 minutes from time when Enyimba goalkeeper Moses Ocheje failed to stop Arendse’s shot.
