The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Niger State Command on Friday said it had deployed 2,500 security personnel to provide security to all political parties during and after their electioneering campaigns in the state.
The state’s corps Commandant, Philip Ayubain, who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Minna said the command was ready to deal with any person or group that threatened the peaceful implementation of electoral processes.
“We are ready to provide peaceful political atmosphere for the conduct of all political activities before, during and after the general elections,” he said.
He said that already, effective operational order had been issued to the Area Commanders and Divisional Officers of the Command across the 25 local government areas of the state for implementation.
“We have reached out to leaders of political parties and advised them against allowing their supporters to go about with dangerous weapons during their electioneering campaigns.’’
Ayuba also warned the residents, especially the youth, to desist from any form of political violence and thuggery.
The commandant called on them not to succumb to move used them as agents of destruction, saying that anyone found wanting would be made to face the full wrath of the law.
He solicited the support of residents, advising them to provide useful information on suspicious movement of youths with dangerous weapons to political gathering for prompt security action to the command for prompt action.
