The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the successful extradition of Benjamin Nnayereugo, popularly known as Killaboi, from Doha, Qatar to Nigeria, where he will face prosecution over the alleged murder of his girlfriend, 21-year-old Augusta Onuwabhagbe.

Killaboi, who had been declared wanted since October 2023, arrived in Nigeria in the early hours of Saturday, April 19, following joint efforts by the Nigeria Police Force, the Federal Ministry of Justice, INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) Abuja and Qatari authorities.

Force spokesperson ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi disclosed in a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter) that the extradition followed a petition submitted by the Onuwabhagbe family through their legal representatives on September 29, 2024.

The police allege that Killaboi murdered Augusta, a first-class student of Lead City University, Ibadan, at his residence located at 24A Abiola Apooyi Street, Oral Estate, Ajah, Lagos, on July 13, 2023.

“After committing the crime, he fled Nigeria and later released an online video purporting to confess to the act, a deceptive strategy to derail investigative efforts,” the statement read.

The Lagos State Police Command declared him wanted on October 13, 2023 and an INTERPOL Red Notice was issued for his arrest.

He was first apprehended in Freetown, Sierra Leone, under a false identity, “Kanu Princeton Samuel,” on October 20, 2023, but escaped during a prison break on November 26 of the same year.

Police investigations revealed that the fugitive moved through several regions, including West Africa, East Asia and the Middle East, using forged identities.

He eventually settled in Doha, Qatar, on January 24, 2025, under the alias “Toure Abdoulaye” with a fake Guinean passport.

His identity was confirmed through biometric verification and collaboration between INTERPOL NCB Abuja and INTERPOL NCB Doha, leading to his arrest by Qatari authorities in February 2025.

An official extradition request, processed via the Federal Ministry of Justice, was approved by Qatar, resulting in his return to Nigeria.

Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, commended the collaboration between international law enforcement bodies and thanked the Qatari government, INTERPOL and Nigeria’s Ministry of Justice for facilitating the extradition.

“The Inspector-General of Police further assured the general public of the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to ensuring that the suspect faces diligent prosecution, as part of the NPF’s dedication to justice and the safety of all Nigerians,” Adejobi stated.

Back in October 2023, Lagos State Police spokesman Benjamin Hundeyin had described Nnayereugo as a 26-year-old man from Abia State, approximately 5’9” tall, dark-skinned and fluent in English, Igbo and Pidgin English.

“Following the exhaustion of all available options to bring him in, he is declared wanted. If seen, please contact the nearest police station or call 0803 688 5727,” Hundeyin said at the time.
