President, Transitional Military Council of the Republic of Chad Lt.-Gen. Mahamat Deby on Friday met President Muhammadu Buhari behind closed doors at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Deby is on a day official visit to Nigeria after visiting the Republic of Niger on May 11.
He took over the mantle of leadership in Chad after the death of his father Idriss Deby on April 19, 2021.
His visit to Nigeria is aimed at formally introducing himself to Buhari who is considered to be one of the most influential leaders in the West African sub-region and Africa at large.
Other matters expected to be discussed at the meeting are the menace of terrorism and arms proliferation threatening peace and security of the sub-region.
Buhari had described the late Deby who ruled chad for three decades as a “friend of Nigeria”.
The late Chadian ruler got injured during clashes with rebels and died in a hospital, according to the military.
