Channels Television has denied links to graphic images suggesting results of the Edo governorship debate held on Sunday.
The broadcast station and its partners held a debate in Benin City, Edo State capital which the two front-runners – Governor Godwin Obaseki and Osagie Ize-Iyamu – were part of.
However, the station released a disclaimer on Twitter discrediting graphic images claiming Mr Obaseki scored 76.3% points while Mr Ize-Iyamu garnered 23.7% points.
“DISCLAIMER! Channels Television has no link with these graphics and the content contained in them. To vote in the Channels TV poll which went up after today’s debate and will run till tomorrow,” the station tweeted.
Ize-Iyamu, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), during the debate claimed Obaseki spent over N75 billion on projects that have all gone to waste.
“The failed Sobe Maize project, 2 billion went down the drain. The Agenebode rice project 5 billion went down the drain and then the oil palm project you have collected 69 billion from the Central Bank and the money has been shared with cronies, and no Edo person has benefitted from that money and I can tell you that has also gone down the drain,” he said.
Obaseki, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), denied the allegations, saying some of the projects were still ongoing.
For his own question, Obaseki asked Ize-Iyamu how he hoped to fund his SIMPLE agenda, in light of the challenges posed by the coronavirus pandemic.
“The way you waste money is not the way I waste money,” Ize-Iyamu replied. “I’m very prudent in financial management.”
