The all-girl cheer group, which came into limelight last year, is gradually becoming a regular feature in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) this season.
It provides added glamour and entertainment in the league by singing, dancing, tumbling and stunting while cheering the teams.
In what started as entertainment at stadiums, Cheerleaders Nigeria has metamorphosed into a brand – earning endorsements from cooperate bodies as well as the League Management Company (LMC).
The track is scheduled to debut Saturday, during the Akwa United – Rangers game at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, the Nest of Champions.
“We’ve been playing other people’s songs while cheering at the games. Now, we decided to bring our own original stuff out there,” Emmanuel Okon, head of the group said.
Groovy ‘Sampele’, which was written by the La Pearl girls, was produced by rave music producer, Bard Bishop, and has an original dance step to it, created by the cheerleaders themselves.

“We are a not-for-profit organisation. We’ve done much of what we’ve achieved using personal funds,” Okon added.
“Everything we make in terms of revenue goes into charity and human capacity building.”
The cheerleading team started in Uyo and has now expanded to Nnewi, Port Harcourt, Owerri and other cities across the country.
