The murder of Abuja-based chef Emeka Eloagu on Sunday evening has left friends and family members in shock.
According to reports, Eloagu’s wife found her husband’s dead body when she returned from church.
The Federal Capital Territory Police spokesperson Mariam Yusuf said the police had begun investigating the death of the creative director of Helenes Food Company.
It was gathered that the case had been transferred from Dawaki Police Station, Katampe District where it was first reported to the criminal investigation department (CID) homicide unit in Abuja.
Speaking with BBC Pidgin, a friend Ken Okechekwu said he had known the chef since 2013 and they had become closer since 2017.
He said the chef’s house was not easily penetrable as one would have to go through security checks to get into the compound.
“I believe it’s someone who was close to him that did this thing,” he said.
BBC Pidgin said it found out that Chef Emeka did not have any child as against media reports suggesting otherwise. It was also learnt that Eloagu got married last December.
Eloagu is a graduate of Le Cordon Bleu Paris, with a grande diplomé in cuisine and patisserie.
He was reputed for combining French cooking methods with Nigerian cuisines.
