Chelsea may have a crucial Champions League clash tie with Barcelona on Tuesday, but the Blues still took some time off to celebrate Victor Moses.
Moses, 27, Monday won the Player of the Year award at the inaugural Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) awards.
The midfielder fended off competition from Leicester City’s Wilfred Ndidi, as well as Nigerian league top scorer, Anthony Okpotu.
The reigning Premier champions were seemingly thrilled by the achievement of one of theirs.
In a post on their official website, Chelsea stated that “the 27-year-old was revolutionised in a right wing-back role under Antonio Conte as we recorded a record number of victories in a Premier League season and reached the FA Cup final, bringing balance to the team, solidity in defence and a regular attacking threat with his dribbling ability.”
It added: “He was his country’s top scorer in African World Cup qualifying, netting three times as Nigeria finished first in a strong group which also contained Algeria, Cameroon and Zambia, and his achievements were recognised in an awards ceremony in Lagos last night where he was named the inaugural NFF Player of the Year in the men’s category.”
