Chelsea have been given permission to open discussion with former player, Frank Lampard, about their vacant manager’s job.
Lampard’s current club, Derby County, announced this in a post on Twitter on Tuesday.
“With pre-season fast approaching for both clubs it is hoped this will allow Chelsea to swiftly conclude their discussions.
“The club will make no further comment until it is appropriate to do so,” the statement read.
Frank Lampard embarked on his first campaign as a manager last season, leading the Rams to the Championship play-off final where they lost to Aston Villa.
The Chelsea legend made 648 appearances for the west London club winning 11 major trophies in 13 years.
Last week, Chelsea welcomed former goalkeeper, Petr Cech, back to the club as a technical and performance advisor.
The return of former players is being touted as a revolution as the club faces the prospect of a two-window transfer ban by world governing body, FIFA.
